I came in expecting just to make great money at just another place. Instead, I made so many life changing relationships. Also, the recognition of my accountability made me feel very respected by my peers.

overworked, underpaid, and not supported

The day-to-day job is exhausting. The hours of operation long and unsustainable to properly manage a successful restaurant. I would clock out with over 65-70 hours a week on salary that doesn't add up well. The benefits are heinously expensive and get taken out of every paycheck. I was put on closing shifts every night making it 12-hour days (Closing a restaurant takes time). I felt very unsupported by my team and upper management. Bar Louie follows 2 policies that were not upheld when I was an employee there. This Location is now closed.

Non-inclusive work culture

Repeatedly came up against management at all levels (in-store, regional, and executive) that exhibited exclusionary behavior. Encountered General Managers who refused to hire staff being 'hot enough', and a VP of the company encouraging this behavior in conversations with managers in training.It is already difficult to staff a restaurant. Turning away qualified, enthusiastic staff because of an outdated image you want to project is definitely not acceptable in a 21st century workplace.

Condescending managers and unrealistic work expectations

The managers talk to you in a very condescending way almost all the time. It doesn’t matter how long you’ve been there, they still think you’re stupid. They strive for the ‘I’m the manager, you’re just a cook’ mentality and are always looking for new opportunities to prove it - even when they’re wrong. The kitchen manager doesn’t know how to actually run a kitchen.

Fun Work Environment, Not great management

I honestly enjoyed my time working at Bar Louie, but at times I felt like my work ethic was not being recognized. Sometimes you would come in for a morning shift only to find out you had to also work the entire night shift, ruining any plans for your night. Some managers sucked, and others were so good they were the reason I stuck around for as long as I did. The food is pretty meh, but the job itself is simple and consistent money.

Terrible!!!

POOR management, AWFUL coworkers. Disorganized, labor laws broken constantly, FILTHY bar and dirty kitchen. Staff is RUDE and management is worse. DO NOT work here at this location !!!!

What A Joke.

Not worth the mental stress. If they see you’re a hard worker they will take advantage and expect you to do everyone else’s job. Management doesn’t care about their employees. No communication what so ever. If someone calls off they make another server stay way later to the point they are working 12-15hr shifts. Most customers and regulars are rude. No support from management, no breaks, drama all the time, talking behind backs but being friendly to your face and lazy co-workers. They never have anything fully stocked or let you know what item we’re out of. Stay far away unless you want to be miserable and have 0 social life.

Honestly...find somewhere else

I loved my job for a long time. In the end, I felt really let down. The company brought in a new GM and none of the employees or other managers thought they had any experience in the department. Unfortunately, there was a clique and it seemed like their favorite pastime was talking behind people's backs about whatever they felt like.Bright side was mid-level management. They were very supportive and mostly personable, kind, funny, etc. GM and clique were terrible.If you do work here, you will probably have to keep to yourself until you learn who you can trust, which is a job (unpaid, of course) in itself.Oh and don't worry about not getting hours if you are front of house; they'll give you whatever shifts they feel like giving you, so you'd better not have a life outside of work.Also, you will be asked to work every holiday the GM or clique don't want to work (which happens to be every holiday).The GM is a liar, too. And they got stressed out over everything...not helpful in a rush (especially when they leave in the middle of it).I regularly worked doubles, sometimes by myself. I mean you get to keep all the $$ which is nice, but I was crying at night (not nice).Honestly, saying all that, I don't even remember why I left.

Everyday is wild and unexpected night

Very poor experience

They pay people more to start but don’t match the people who train them pay. They switch around your hours without saying anything. And have ver very poor management, none of the management even knows how to do most things in BOH let alone actually want to do them.

Management

They don’t really help unless forced . People quit really fast . Been there for a long time never got a raise but they hire new people and want you to train them for no extra pay but they making than me .

Servers beware !

They require servers to take a test with approximately 60+ questions just to take food orders and serve food to customers. No matter the amount of experience you have, if you fail you won’t be given another chance to try again and let go without an opportunity to work in another position.

Professional Company

The decisions you make operationally will have an effect on how the bar manager runs her bar and staff. A bit harder to bounce back if you make error or bad decision.

Fast paced and expensive

Great experience ! Although, distress when short staffed can be very overwhelming. The general manager is very reliable and attentive to her workers and customers. Unfortunately, when she is not there the other managers tend to slack off and disappear

Interesting experience

It was fun environment and friendly stuff. But it was actually my only experience in bar/restaurant. I learned a lot from this place. Management was helpful, can't say anything bad about them.Could be very long hours though.

Management ruined this gastro pub's bright lights

PROS: lots of hours, money to be made, flexible to a point (see CONS)CONS: I am not sure you could find worse local and regional management than what I encountered at Bar Louie. The managers would clock you out, but still, have you working unbeknownst to you-there is currently litigation that is ongoing pertaining to this. I have opted out of that and I am just glad I am done with school and long gone. This was a great idea that got completely ruined by faulty management on all levels I was exposed to.

They closed

I enjoyed working here until they closed. The location was not good for a bar. Over all it was an ok place to work. The other staff worked well together.

There is good and bad working here

The pay was decent but varies based on staffing and management properly doing their job which was always an issue where I worked. The menu was consistently changing too much and the guests we not happy about so much change and the food consistently went down compared to when it first opened as a business. The staples on the menu that were a big draw to the restaurant we’re either changed or removed unfortunately business declined drastically from this.

Management has its downs but working back of house you can get most leniency. I pretty much help out with prep and dish cause of my health and I'm at Bar Louie to avoid them stupid shots that cause death, paralysis, heart problems and such.Population Control basically.

Stayed for the people

Sucks to be fired over Facebook. Met some great people. Management does the best with what they’re given. Corporate can’t get it together. Can’t believe they’re still open.

Great Place to Work but management is terrible

Management doesn't care about employees at all and they make themselves look good while doing absolutely nothing for the restaurant or people who work there.
